Social disciplinary power makes people to act a specific way in different environment, we have to hide some of our traits and behave as society expected. This habit makes us lie to ourselves and others, these lies eventually tangles up with each other and causes fragmented identity.

Erving Goffman presented the idea that a person is like an actor on a stage. Most people, consciously or unconsciously, behave somewhat differently as their professional selves vs. their private or intimate selves. Everyone puts on a performance in our society, the backstage self is rarely reveal before the public. Which makes it even harder to make connections.
