“Neck and Neck” explores the rapid urbanization of modern cities. The rapid growth and ‘race’ to build these skyscrapers makes it seem as though such buildings are only accessible to tall beings like giraffes.

“Zebra Crossing” interprets the movements and migration patterns of zebras, drawing a literal and figurative parallel between a dazzle of zebras and the regular commute of our everyday at the zebra cross.

“Night Owl”, imitates that fear of travelling late at night in the big city. Though the city streets are bright and lively, just as an owl hunts at night, we as the prey always feel unsafe.

“Bear Essentials” speaks on the current state of the economy and the rising costs of food. As a bear feeds and builds fat to survive the lack of food during winter, we have to find a way to feed and prepare ourselves during this grocery crisis.

“Shellfishly” is a representation of consumerism. The words selfish and shellfish go hand-in-hand in this work. We often develop impulsive spending habits to purchase material goods to satisfy us for only a moment. The composition also suggests a display of a collector’s item.

“Flight Path” interprets the migration and immigration of people and birds. Everyday we interact with those who have flown all the way across the world to be where you are right now. Just as birds will migrate out of necessity, so will we.

“Butterfly Effect” is meant to interpret the viewer into the entire scope of this body of works. The butterfly effect, in essence, is when a small action can be the cause of big changes in your life. Looking in a mirror you see yourself looking back. In this mirror, you’re able to see your own butterfly. Whether or not the flap of its wings has already changed your life if up for you to decide.
