“Crying Flowers” It’s based on the story of a Japanese writer called Misuku Kaneko who was tortured by her ex-husband. She was banned from writing poems and her daughter was taken away from her after the divorce. This scene was from one of her poems that flowers were crying for their stolen honey. “Inner Life” Inspired by a Japanese writer called Kitamura Tokoku who hanged himself. His literature called “Theory of inner Life” shows how he believe the great beauty was from the inner body. “The Chasing” It is based on a Japanese writer called Hidemitsu Tanaka who committed suicide by cutting his wrist after taking overdose of sleeping pills. The moon represents his tutor Osamu Dazai as chasing the light. “Geisha” Inspired by Japanese author Yasunari Kawabata’s work “the snow country”. He gasing himself in the end which gives me the inspiration of my frame. “The bomb flower” It’s inspired by Tamiki Hara’s experience of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima and his book “The summer flower”. “The hanging grape” Inspired by Takeo Arishima’s life experience of having an affair with Akiko Hatano, a married editor from Fujin Koron. The illustration combines his life with his literature called “Grape”. “I’m Kappa” The illustration shows how Ryunosuke Akutagawa feeling isolated from the society from his famous literature called “Kappa”. Close They Die, They Live “They Die, They Live” is based on the background stories of those Japanese famous writers who were committed suicide due to their mental isolation and social deformities during that periods.
