Blue walk
For my semester long assignment, my artist inspiration was Alexandra Kehayoglou, who uses her chosen medium of textiles and rug making to recreate the environments that she is familiar with and was raised in. In response to this I wanted to reflect the area I grew up in, in rural Ottawa valley, and my somewhat complicated feelings for it. Whenever I go back to visit family, I’m grateful for the beautiful space in comparison to living in Toronto, but I’m also blown away at the fact that is how I spent most of my childhood. Additionally, going there over the break I was reminded how isolating and brutal it can be to live in that environment, especially in the winter. To accomplish this, I used a variety of photos that I had taken when I was home over the winter break, as well as some old photos from my childhood.
