Bouquet of Peonies on Tampons
This piece was created to start a deeper conversation about women’s health and the stigma around menstruation specifically. The piece was created by glueing over 100 tampons onto a canvas. The medium is oil paint. I painted the flowers in a thick, blotchy style intentionally to firstly communicate the influence of the impressionist painter but to also add to the message of the painting. As you stand far away from the painting the only message is that of the beautiful flowers. As you step closer the flowers become less legible and you can see that the canvas is made of tampons. The reason for this was to have the conversation and reaction to the painting change depending on where the viewer stands.
