The process of creating a painting is full of pitfalls when you let your mind wander. This series depicts three intrusive thoughts I’ve encountered and had to talk myself out of doing during the process of painting some particularly boring pieces. The unexpected placement of relatable imagery, and the juxtaposition of washed out colours with bright, energetic paint splatters comes to symbolize the sudden compulsion to do something spontaneous, and perhaps something you’ll regret, in the face of mind-numbing sameness. By painting each scene from a first-person perspective, I hope to put you, the viewer, into the headspace I’m in whenever I get the urge to punch a hole in my own work.
