Attraction
This painting is a visualization of a sensation of attraction, more specifically the fascination, uncertainty and curiosity that is felt as part of the attraction. This painting is meant to be open to interpretation so how this painting is seen is up to the viewer.
For this painting I wanted to do something inspired by colour and the artist Edward Hopper. His paintings are usually of mundane scenes that have a calm and kind of observant atmosphere and that’s what I wanted to incorporate into my work- More than anything the mood/atmosphere is what I wanted to focus on. I also wanted this scene to be my usual style of dreaminess as well so I tried to not have too much tonal contrast in the overall painting.
I’ve also made the main surrounding environment very simple, so that it creates a compositional negative space to help bring focus to the main subject.
